ive generally noticed people from my mom’s generation who call themselves empaths were abused in childhood and are trying to find a way to describe they have a big heart, even towards the people who hurt them, tolerating too much for too long etc. the empath term is in contrast to the parents who evidently didn’t feel any compassion towards them.
